I would like to suggest putting The Shadow of the Wind by Carlso Ruiz Zafon at the head of this queue. Definitely the best book I’ve read this year.

Have you tried out http://readernaut.com/ yet? It’s a site for keeping track of what you’re reading / what you’ve read / notes you’ve made / your reviews / what your friends are reading (e.g. http://readernaut.com/nathan/ ) - it looks like it might be right up your street.
